Bob Douglas (was born on July 31st 1947. In 1956 his dad built a race car that would eventually be known as a super modified.
Later, that division would develop into the modern-day sprint car. The elder Douglas loved all things mechanical, and though never a driver, enjoyed his time in racing as an owner and builder.
40 years later, Bob Douglas in 1996 would start his business Rod End Supply. Rod End Supply is nationally recognized as one of the top companies in the racing supply industry.
Rod End Supply Manufacturers rod ends, radius rods, and other specialty parts for many different types of racing.
Besides Bob’s business as the “Rod End King” Douglas has found a niche in racing on the track with the Midwest Lightning Sprints, aka mini sprint division.
Lightning Sprints bridge the gap between the micro division, and the traditional midget division. This class races with motorcycle chain driven motors, in a full-sized midget chassis running with wings, and without wings on occasion.
Bob has been a driving force in Lightning Sprints since 1990 as first a sponsor, then owner, and also a promoter.
His love for this type of racing has helped nurture this mini sprint series for almost 35 years.
Douglas is also known for his number 49 lightning sprint that has become a fixture at KC area tracks that have included I-35, Valley Speedway, Central Missouri Speedway, and Topeka Raceway among others.
The “Rod End King” Bob Douglas is known throughout racing for his development and selling of racing parts. While also becoming prominent, locally, regionally, and nationally, for his great work with the lightning sprint, aka mini sprint division. On his way to being inducted into the CARB Hall of Fame.
